RE: 4KSQ: Aftermarket Springs

In a note dated 1/29/97 Mark A. Engebretson asks:

>>I have 126K on my '85 4000SQ and it is in desperate need of new struts. I
figure that I might as well replace the springs at the same time. <snip> Are
there any aftermarket spring out there that will retain the stock (or near
stock) height?<<

Not that I am aware of, but since mine is at 156k, I am curious too (and
don't want to pay o.e. prices for new springs when that day arrives). What
are the best replacement spring options for a 4kq? Also, it was recently
asked what stock ride heights should be (Glenn?). With new KYB gas struts,
control arm bushings, and strut bearings (ball joints and tie rod ends seem
fine still) my 4kq handles every bit as well as I remember my first one did
(with supposed "sport suspension") when it was brand new 10 years ago so I'm
skeptical about needing new springs. I too have no clue how to verify if ride
height is correct and also see no references in the Bentley. I am sure there
must be 4kq owners on this list who have set them up for autocross and/or
track event who have some baseline settings and measurements...at least 3
inquiring 4kq owners now wish to know. TIA
