The tread continues:

Wow!

You only had to remove like 4 small bolts, holding the rails on the top.
Then tilt/slide it in a certain way (takes some experimenting) and the
whole assy can be removed from the top. The rails stay attached to the
sunroof. Piece of cake, takes 10min or less.
