The Car Book 1997

In this morning’s Drive section of the local newspaper there is a review on
The Car Book 1997. Normaly I don’t pay much attention to this publication as
it seems to resemble the Consumer Reports in its reviews-in other words, how
best to pick an appliance for personal transport rather than an enthusiast’s
slant. To my pleasant surprise, #1 Mid-Size Car: Audi A4, and #1 Large Car:
Audi A6. While I’m not pleased with the model mix from an enthusiast
standpoint (except the A4 1.8tq of course...but where is the I5t!!!???), I am
very happy to see one of my favorite car manufacturers get the credit they
deserve. For those unaware of The Car Book, it is an independent publication
which ranks the best bets each model year by size catagory. The ranking is
based on costs of owership (maintenance, insurance, resale value), safety,
reliability, etc. Another pleasent surprise was seeing dorf sweep the lists
for owner loyalty (as I feel they are the best of the domestics these
days-just my opinion) in this book. Kudos to Audi for making this list with a
bang!!!
