VW coupe=audi coupe?
Chicago Auto Show starts next weekend. In preparation(anticipation)
today's Tribune Auto Section has a few teasers about what's coming, etc.
The following is from the paper:
"VW will bring its concept CJ coupe to Chicago to determine whether to
put the sports model into production. The car, which share a platform
withe the Audi A4, features a 1.8 liter 4 cylinder engine, but could hold
a V-6, VW says. By the way, word is that the car is slated to be built
for the 1999 model year unless viewers here voice strong opposition."
there is a very nice picture of the coupe. I would call the styling
pleasant but not outstanding or path-breaking. Grill carries a pair of
rectangular headlights with the grill/headlight assembly angled backwards
not unlike the old Toyota Celica coupes. A rather wide "B" pillar might
make for some interesting blind sports on lane changes. Mild fender
flares should give after-market guys an opportunity to put some series
wheel/tire combs on it.
Picture shows the car with 5 spoke wheels and some rather massive looking
brakes with drilled front rotors. Cannot tell if rear rotors are drilled
as well.
Overall an attractive coupe devoid of all kinds of phony looking wings,
bulges, etc. Don't know what VW/Audi are thinking (is that an oxymoron?)
but to my eye it could serve as a wonderful platform for an Audi
performance coupe.
