hydraulic pump blues
I see Avi Meron is having trouble with his pentosin pump - ahh, yes, the old
pentosin volcano trick!
Rebuild the pump - all O rings, and you MUST replace the big one under the
check valve - not in the kit! - get it from a hydraulic supply company.
The kit contains O rings between the case halves, and O rings for under the
"X" caps which caps are a PITA to get out, and have to be torqued down on
reassembly - no torque setting on my special tool - ground down a chisel to
fit the slot in the caps - make 'em tight.
Make SURE you get the right kit! There are two, and one of them doesn't have
enough O rings to get the job done.
Torque settings for thru bolts, etc, in the archives - follow "Pentosin
Volcano" thread.
Whole job takes about two to three hours, complete. Not a difficult job.
Bleeding pump: Fill pump with funnel before attaching hoses and drive belt,
turn it by hand to get it as full as possible. Attach hoses and drive belt,
etc. When done, fill resevoir, start engine - DON'T REV IT UP - keep it a a
low idle, turn steering R to L to R to L, refill resevoir, repeat as needed
(about 2-3 X).
