Results/Congratulations -- 97 Snow and Ice

Hi Folks,

Fun, fun, fun, is the report from the 1997 Snow and Ice Rally
beginning and ending in Bow, NH, USA. Bob Davis (navigator-extraordinare)
and I ran with about 30 teams last Sunday over some of the most wonderful
roads North of the Carolinas and East of the Mississippi. I believe that
there were six or so other Quattros in attendance....among them, the
esteemed Glenn Lawton and Bob (last name?..sorry), and Bob and Wendy
Wentraub (great to meet you).

Conditions were Quattro perfect as about 90% of the roads were covered
with anywhere from a few inches of greasy slush or a nice packed brown or
white powder. I even managed to take some slush home with me after
inadvertantly leaving a window down and getting both Bob and I (not to
mention the inside rear window, headliner, seats, door ....well, you get
the idea) a nice brown slush shower from a passing (lost) competitor. I
know that Glenn and Bob even managed to make friends with some of the
locals as they were the 24th car to pass one very unhappy citizen's house
(probably more traffic than farmer Brown normally sees in a month).
Notwithstanding the shovel wielding locals standing in the middle of the
route, I know that Glenn and Bob had a great time too. Bob Davis and I
managed to play quite a bit of nose and tail tag with the Weintraubs and
have become convinced that bringing the family along is something best left
to the experts (my hats off to you both!!!!!!).
Congratulations, accolades, and a hardy handshake must go out to Glenn
Lawton and Bob who took

FIRST IN QUATTRO CLASS AND 15TH
OVERALL!!!!!!!!!!!!

I must say, what really made it fun for Bob Davis and I was our battle
cry of "Beat Lawton" who had thrown down the gauntlet early in the day.
Despite our best efforts, Bob and I finished second in Quattro class a mere
16/100ths of a second behind Mr. Lawton and 16th overall.
Would I do it again? In a heartbeat......thanks to all the other
great competitors and organizers especially. A GREAT day!
