Till Next Year - Snow & Ice 98 & Ice Time Trials

Thanks to all the Q Teams that came out to play at the first NEQ Winter
Weekend.

The weather was perfect for the Snow & Ice TSD Rally but Newfound Lake
was not frozen enough to do the Ice Time Trials (the BMW CCA has a
schedule for the rest of the season).

Our thanks go to the Snow & Ice 97 Rallymaster David Lewis and Registrar
Maryanne Rhodes and all the checkpoint/other workers, and especially to
Tom and Barb Ciesla who help to get us involved, and worked so hard on
this event.

Also our thanks go to the NER SCCA, TCNE and the BMW CCA.

There were a total of 28 Teams entered, with 26 Teams participating and
1 Team not finishing. There were 7 Q Teams at the Rally representing 28%
of the field.

The 4000 Q Team of Glenn Lawton and Bob Baker came in first in the
Quattro Class and the Q Team of Paul Royal and Bob Davis came in second
in their 4000 Q with snowflake wheels.

Besides absolutely beautifull winter snow covered trees and fields, with
cascading snow powder falling on ones' windshield. . . there was . . .
45 degree power-sliding down snow and ice backroads . . . logging truck
avoidance . . . snow plow induced threshold braking . . . mad dog
pomerainian Q chasing . . . apex testing . . . puzzle solving . . . tuns
of laughs . . . a Q wagon with the theme from Star Wars blasting and the
voice ". . . the Force is with you . . ." and most of all a chance to
party at the end and meet new friends.

Yes next year there will be another NEQ Winter Weekend and we expect
that there will be over 50% of the field Q Teams.

But don't despair there are still winter Rallys going on with some of
the most challenging ones being held by the FLR SCCA.

If you are looking for a driver or navigator let me know and I will post
your request to the NEQ Q Team web page.

Rally on.
