Steamboat adventure
Hello fellow Q people,
Well the Steamboat event was a great success as always. Even
though I didn't drive in the event this year, I still had a great
time and some of the rides I was given by many drivers were unreal.
It all started with an Audi train of four Quattros leaving Denver
on Friday and somehow all of us avoided being issued a HUGE speeding ticket
coming over Rabbit Ears pass(Gee Ben, I guess you do have nine
lives) Saturday night the SCCA event was fun to watch in the dark(I'm
really glad Scott Davis decided not to sell his sickning-fast Ur-q) PDQ-ship
gave us his humorous opinion on what to do with the Suzuki Swift that
had this wimpy light mount job with H4's on the bumper. This guy had to be
pushing at least 63 HP through that plastic motor and the H4's were
so loose it made you sick just watching the guy drive at night. Stott
sent us crying by commenting that the awful noise this car made at
high rpm was the 8" speaker stuck out the window to simulate a
wastegate opening and shutting. Ok, enough about the Suzuki. Later
that night about 10 of us met at a bar and talked Quattros while
asking PDQ-ship plenty of questions. He really is a great guy,
contrary to belief-ha ha Scott.
The best day was Sunday as this was the day when you drove your
own Q. Dave Lawson, your restored '83 Q is absolutely beautiful!
Daves son slept in the passenger seat while he ripped it up on the
track! Stott had the best crowd pleasing runs by depositing and
leaving lower body panels and parts in snow banks and recovering from 360's
beautifully-hey Stott, did you ever grab your horn you left on turn 5
Ben left his own mark by planting a few turn signals in snow banks
here and there. I really enjoyed the 45 degree bank climb on turn
8 Ben! Did my passengers door handle rubbing the track keep us from
ending upside down? PDQ-Ship Scott, thanks again for the unbelievable
ride even if it was in the wifes car and not original PDQ-Ship. Your
Prorally days shine through as you showed all of us the "line" to
take around the track. This guy eats snow banks to stop AND go and
believe me, it works!
I had a great time and I'm sure everyone else felt the same.
Stott Hare and Chris Semple-hope you guys made it back safely to NH
even if the drag coefficient went up slightly on the Q. Scott J- Hope
the trip to Chicago went well and hope the skiing was great. Thanks
to Ben Howell and Steve Eiche for the fast trip up the mountain. Ben,
could you see ANYTHING on the way home? Nice Blizzard! Mike Spiers,
hope you get the starter fixed. Actually the James bond starter is
kinda cool. Thanks to all the other listers whom I spoke with at this
event! Hope to see you all at Stapleton!
Later,
Chad Clark
