Downshifting Continued: Double Clutching

The general consensus is that downshifting is not all that great unless
you are a race car driver.
Two methods have been raised for better downshifting.
1. Matching RPMS before letting out clutch
2. Double Clutching

For the first, what is the best way to teach yourself to match it and how
close do you need to be. I can shift my engine on sound alone w/o a visual
on the tach, but find myself looking alot at the tach while trying this
method. This is the same thing I did while learning to drive stick, but I'm
looking for a quicker way. Any suggestions?

For the second. What is double clutching and how do you do it. I've heard
of it, but I don't know if I have tried it as I do not know what it is.

Last, the general theory that you all mostly tell me is that replacing
brakes is cheaper than replacing clutches. So, since I want a brake upgrade
anyway, my downshifting will have to be curbed.
I think this is like learning to drive all over again. I didn't realize
how habitual I have become. It'll be alot more work than it will be for my
wife. She's only got 6 months of stickshift driving experience. I have
about 5 years.
