RE: Downshifting for Normal Driving

For those who aren't yet tired of this ( I'm getting pretty close, folks!)...
Two items:
1) Engine braking: The owner's manual for my old '85 urabuS GL Wagon (at
least it was 4WD) actually _recommended_ using engine braking to save the
brakes! Of course, this was a matter of convenience, because those brakes
would only last about a month and that HO4 could handle a pretty good beating.
The clutch, however, I'm not so sure about.
2) I seem to recall that there is some law here in Tennessee against operating
a motor vehicle in neutral without the clutch depressed. Now, I have no
shortage of faulty synapses, mind you, so I could be wrong. However, I have
_never_ violated the law.
;^) How do you suppose I got those faulty synapses? ;^)

Still mastering the art of double-clutching,
"Honestly, occifer, I only do it down in Georgia!"
