1990 Audi V8 purchasing advice
Hi Rich,
I bought mine used in spring 1992 with 46K miles. It has never let me
down and is still a joy to drive at 84K miles. Maintenance is obviously
more expensive than for some other cars as noted in this list (less
built = big $ for parts). I wanted a performance car that could imitate
a family sedan or client schlepping car, and this is it.
In five years all service work has been regular maintenance or recall
(cruise control rod bushing) or minor wear & tear. Make sure you get one
with timing belt replacement if near 60K miles (original spec was 90K,
factory now advises sooner). My stereo on/off switch has died, which I
think is standard to many Audi models. Replacement head unit from dealer
will be about $110, switch can be replaced for less money/more hassle.
Go for it. Be careful not to drive an A8 while you're looking.
