Going faster than the traffic may not give you more time to react but it
does give you an energy advantage that can often be used to get out of
the way more quickly.....of course it can get you into the way more
quickly too...:)

Statements like this however I find intensely annoying...it all assumes
that the beurocratically determined speed limit is some magical figure
that automatically protects you from harm if you keep under it..
A safe speed for any given situation is entirely dependant on the
circumstances...location, weather conditions, traffic levels, car
dynamics, driver ability, etc, etc...Often a safe speed will be less
than the posted speed limit and often it will be higher...and can only
really be determined by an educated driver...the more educated the
better..driver training is the answer not speed limits!
If you follow the mentality of the statement above you would also
conclude that travelling 10, 15 ,or 20 miles UNDER the limit is safer
still...Hell why dont we all travel 50 miles under the limit and be
REALLY safe.....In fact if we all walked there would be no car
accidents!!
