Re: Downshifting for Normal Driving

I downshift all the time, careful to match rpm before letting the clutch out
though.

220K plus miles on the 4K CSQ, and replaced the clutch the first time at
close to 200K miles, never had a transmission problem. Still driving it, but
the gremlins are starting to get me (just lost a front wheel bearing and
starter motor last week).

150K miles on an '89 200TQ, was still on the original clutch when I traded
it, no tranny work.

79K on current 92 S4, same practice and on original clutch and trans is ok.

I drive the cars hard, but carefully. Do not slip the clutch during
acceleration, but like to use the higher rpm ranges. Do not abuse brakes
(except during quattro club events:-))
