Re: '91 Coupe Quattro Problem
I had the same problem as Chris Gharibo wrote below(only with an '86
Gt Coupe) and haven't been able to get around to solving/fixing it
outside of a few posts. I would now like to officially start a thread
re: '86 Gt Coupe fuel delivery problem. I know where pump and filters
are located and have already changed the secondary one(it was extremely
dirty w/ rust/debris). One lister answering previous post stated dirty
filter should have tipped me off that the pump is the problem.
1.Is this true and should I go ahead and replace pump without further
diagnosis? I did_not_notice(doesn't necessarily mean there was not
noise) any noise(I know what to listen for from experience w/ VW fuel
pumps failing) coming from fuel pump previous to death of car. 2.What
should I hear now when I turn the key to the start/on position and what
will that noise tell me? 3.I've checked the archives and have printed a
somewhat brief description of how to replace the pump on an '85 GT Coupe
and assume that it is the same procedure for '86, is that true? <If
anyone feels up to describing(or knows where in the archives info is)
the procedure in detail(specific tools, problem areas, etc.) for me,
that would be great!!> 4.Would this pump problem/fuel have anything to
do with an absolutely_confused trip computer(fuel gauge inaccurate,
M.P.G. AVE. completely off, and miles to go deceiving)?!?
I am going to tackle this problem this week and hope to have help
from all of you great helpers out there. . . .! I can't wait to try this
double de-clutching thing . .
