I also have a 97 2.8 A4Q 5spd. However, I have had no problems with my
remote locking. It works great on my A4Q. I hope you guys can get it
fixed.

To get your remote locking to respond better, I have found that holding the
end of the fob up to your chin and then pressing the lock or unlock button
extends the range. I used to have a Clifford Car Alarm in my Honda, and I
could almost double the range by holding the fob up to my chin.
Matter-a-fact, I think this was even stated in the book of my Clifford
alarm. Anyway give it a try and let me know what you think.

Also, I have found that the remote locking and unlocking works better if
you hold the button on the fob down for about 1-2 seconds rather then just
a quick push.

Brake noise? Yep, I get it to. It's kind of embarrassing coming to a stop
with a $34,000 car squealing it's heart out. I even bedded the brakes in
properly from the first time I bought the car up till 1,500 miles. It
didn't make any difference. The brakes don't squeal all the time. Only
sometimes.

As-far-as having the brakes squeal around a corner or U-turn, nope. I have
not had this happen, yet. I am assuming that your foot is off the brake
when turning, right? ;-)

Well I hope this helps a little bit. Good Luck
