Gotcha covered on that one!! I used a hammer to tap on the CENTER of
the idler, not on the outer part, and snugged it in before inserting
bolt. Yup, the skinny bolt (spec torque: 7 lbs/ft) is another
shining example of idiotic design....I'm sure they did it because
they didn't WANT us to use the bolt to draw the idler into place.
But at least it's skinny enough that this cognition-challenged member
of the list figured out not to use it to seat the idler. Sorry that
it happened to you.
You're right, the crossmember is in the way, but it can be done with
small taps and a bit of patience (which it is obvious to all
list-members that I was dangerously low on by that point...)
