RE: 5-point belts: where to buy and installation

I have one of these Schroth harness' in my Scirocco. It is a four point
harness and there are two types you can get. One (the one I have) has
two mounts that tie to the rear lap belt hard points and two that tie to
the shoulder belt hard points. The second type Schroth sells has three
tie points instead of the four. The three tie point harness is ment for
a) a car not equipped with reinforced seats or b) for those that want
easy access to the rear seats. As rarely does anyone ride in the back
seat of my car that was not been an issue.
I have been stopped by the CHP a number of times because when I wear my
harness (all the time) it appears
that I don't have my safety belt on. It has never been an issue whether
or not the harness is DOT approved and
each time the officer seems very pleased that I made the extra
precaution by installing this harness.
I still question this law because I do not believe in laws against
self-abuse. If an adult is willing to drive without
a belt why stand in the way of natural selection? Provided that person
is not affecting the life, liberty and pursuit of happiness of others
why make it a crime. Children on the other hand is different. I will
report people with children not wearing safety belts. Children are not
capable of making good decisions and it is a crime
for an adult to jeapardize that child's safety.
In closing I am very happy with my Schroth. I do not need to hang on to
the wheel when I drive. I can relax and
go with the car. This frees me up to enjoy what I love - driving.
