Audis and road etiquette
Hi all,
Re: all this traffic about drivers and their behaviour, has anyone ever
noticed that when you're in an Audi, other Audi drivers seem to be more
courteous to you? I drive lots of different cars, but the minute I climb
into my trusty Audi, it seems that other Audis yield, keep their distance
more, etc. etc... strange!
I've never noticed this, say, when driving a Ford (other Ford drivers
behave as moronic as usual). When I'm in a Ford, Audi drivers generally
don't yield like they do when I'm in my own car.
Besides, I find that Audi drivers here, although mostly not slow
(euphemism) behave quite OK as a rule, at least when compared to drivers of
other similar-type cars.
The general consensus seems to be that a lot of US drivers don't really
know what they're doing. I'd say that this goes for drivers here in Holland
as well. Lots of examples of comatose driving, not using turn signals or
mirrors, or just plain aggressive driving. However, a few minor niggles
apart, I'm impressed by the standards of driver's education here. Sooo...
-some people obviously can't be bothered to remember what they've learnt;
-the rules are there to be instantly forgotten the moment you pass your test;
-personality seems to have a strong bearing on your behaviour as a driver
This seems to be the same all over the world, aggravated only in countries
where tests are 'light-weight'.
Still, I think that driving skills and drivers' behaviour are *way* below
par here. It's come to the point where I'm amazed if somebody uses his/her
turn signals correctly, or is polite to other drivers.
So much for the hallowed European standards of driving... just 3 emergency
stops this week, defensive driving made into an art form. Still, no
accidents so far!

"Can you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here," asked Alice.
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the cat.
