5k coolant leak, odo, speedo

Hello all... Back again after a lengthy layoff. Whoda thunk that Miami
University would have dropped me from their server with no warning two
months after graduation? Anyway, this "One-net" company doesn't seem
too bad...

So here are my latest problems (86 5ks no q, no t):
1:After being advised that my non-functioning odometer is likely
caused by an out-of-place gear, I removed it and fixed the gear. 100
miles later (at 96499) it popped right back out again. Don't see
anywhere to glue it. The dirty, dirty man over at Gene's speedometer
quotes me $65 for repair of the popping-out gear and a speedo
calibration. Seeing that I could get a used Odo/speedo for that much I
have hesitated. He then explained that if I didn't want to take it out
myself, he would remove, repair and calibrate for $265. (gasp)
I told him I would shop around and get back to him. My questions here:
a: Does anyone know how to make that gear stick in place?
b: Does $65 sound excessive?
c: How far out of calibration does one expect a used speedo to be?
d: Anyone know a speedo guy (or woman) in the OH/IN/KY area?
e: other general shopping advice?

2:I have a serious coolant leak. I see that it is dripping down the
side of the oil pan. I checked all visible fasteners and concluded by
process of elimination that the leak is likely coming from the
vicinity of the water pump. I hope it's a fastener, of course, but I'm
taking her in for a professional diagnosis soon. The garage is pretty
good about putting in other people's parts. I did RTFM, BTW, but
please advise ASAP or I will use more BW. It may be FUBARRED, which
would make the SOB a PITA to fix-- so I could be SOL. What is the SOP
here? TIA.
Questions here:
a: Is there an easy way to target the leak, i.e get to the pump?
b: If it needs replacement, how long should it take the mechanic?
c: If I am semi-competent (uhh...) how long should it take me?
d: Anyone know of a remanned pump for <$189.00?
e: If I do fix-it-myself, any gotcha's? easy mistakes to make?

happy holidays!
