to lock or unlock the car. Simply locking & unlocking the door
with the key apparently resets the system and fixes the
problem and the remote will again begin to work. >>
I do not mean to dispute that some Audi remote locking systems may have
problems, but there is a peculiarity unique to the '97 Audi remote locking
operation which can mislead people into thinking that there is a problem
when, in fact, it may be "operator unfamiliarity." The results in Mark
Quinn's survey indicate frequent complaints on '97s with near zero problems,
of this sort, on earlier systems.
The new-for-'97 RF remote locking system requires a "long push" (more than
one second) on the remote lock buttons to effect operation. A full second is
actually a long time, about 10 -15 times longer than the usual switching time
used for most similar devices. Is it possible that some of the "no
operation" problems could be a result of unfamiliarity with this somewhat
unnatural operational requirement?
