I've been giving this some thought and have decided that the remote
is most likely to "fail" when I have tried to unlock it from quite a
distance -- from the limit of where it could work. Over the last week
I've been experimenting (though I haven't driven the car a LOT), and
have only been trying to open the doors when I'm close to the car (within
5 meters or so). So far I've not had a single failure.
My theory is that trying to unlock it from 15 meters or so away, while it
MAY work, if there is any interferance from other cars or anything else
may cause to alarm shut down. In general I can easily live with this
if the alternative is a car that's easier to break into. So far, following
this MO, I haven't had ANY failures this week (about a dozen tries) after
having about 4 failed attempts in the previous 2 weeks. Things are looking
good so far, but I'll let you know if I have another failure.
Enjoy,
Sean
