Have had this too. While I haven't tracked it down, I believe the
sensor for the idiot light reads from a different location than the
gauge. Try checking the level of the coolant inside the rad via the
threaded plug on top of the rad. I have eliminated the blinking idiot
light by filling via this plug, and other times via topping off the
collant reservoir. Possiby something about air bubbles.
