Greg,
One more thing for you to try. I own an '84 4000S, which is a 4 cyl, but
I think the injections systems are fairly close for those years.
There are two brown ground wires (on my car) which both connect to one
ring lug under one of the cold start injector bolts. If either of those
wires breaks loose, you will get exactly those start/stall symptoms because
you lose a couple of FI sensor inputs with no ground so the cold start injector
just keeps pumping and bogs it out (technical term). This drove me nuts one
day after I replaced the air filter and unknowingly broke off one of the ground
wires. Then I didn't see it since one was still connected. I finally noticed
the other ground wire hanging free under the intake manifold and as soon as I
reconnected it the engine ran fine again.
