i was having a drink with another petrolhead last night and we were talking about
f1 engines reving to over 18,000rpm. some rudimentary calculations based on the
assumption that a 3l v10 has a stroke of about 60mm (bore 80mm) would yield
a piston speed of 2k m/min or 7k ft/min or there abouts.
this seems very high, but i imagine modern materials technology has made it possible.
anyway, anyone know what revs the s1 quattro pikes peak car (the final quattro iteration)
pulled? i'd be interested to see what piston speeds a highly boosted i5 could pull.
