... but don't know if the headlight can be effectively repaired without
silicone. The normal Windshield fix probably won't work, as it is very
liquid and designed to be used on laminated/safety glass and cured by UV
rays, I believe. I've put some very clear packing tape....... Anyone tried
this or have any better ideas?

Don't use silicone. Don't use UV cured chemicals, unless you plan on keeping
the vehicle out of sunlight, as it _will_ continue to cure, discolor, then
fail. Where are you located? There might be a fellow Superglass outlet near
you. Our normal mode of operation for something such as this is to be handed
the lamp, take it to a controlled environment, then hand it back, repaired,
24 hours later. Guaranteed satisfaction. Cost is much less than what you
quoted a few posts back. If you ski at Killington, Sugarbush or Stowe, I'll
fix it while you're on the hill. If you work for a company that has any sort
of fleet and a vehicle maintenance program, they probably already know how to
get in touch with us. Most don't advertise. If you don't have a facility near
you, I would be willing to 'walk you through' your best repair attempt with
the materials you have at hand...
