Re: Bomb proof Audi
If you check out the Brazilian Audi page, (I think it's Audi.com.br)
they have electronic reprints of their Audi Magazine. There's an
article in one of the magazines about the A8 Blindado (armoured).
If you find it you can see the pictures of the car, but the
text is in Portugues. Some of the highlights of the car:
The car is armoured by the factory, not an aftermarket company.
It's available in various (standard) armor levels from 4 to 7,
with prices varying from U$250,000 to U$500,000. (Qlisters keep
in mind that the "basic" A8Q in Brazil sells for U$165,000.)
Many mechanical parts are reinforced, like the suspension, which
has to deal with between 200 and 1000 more kilos of weight. To
get an idea of the improvement to the suspension, according to
the Audi factory, this special suspension would go 1 million to
1.2 million kilometers without any kind of repair or maintenance
if installed in a standard car. (gee...I wonder if it ever occured
to them to INSTALL these in "normal" cars..)
A button which detonates explosives to open doors. (Probably something
like the explosive hinges used on space capsules??)
Weight is almost 3 tons. (Level 7)
Car can handle simultaneous explosion of two hand grenades, 15 Kilos
of geosita (geosite??) charge, and carbine, machine gun and revolver
fire at the same time. None of which will penetrate the car at
any point.
Intercom system to the outside. (So you don't have to open the
power windows, which still open half way in the front.)
No outward appearance difference. Car looks exactly like any other
A8.
Even with the added weight, car still accelerates quickly and
can sustain maximum speed of 220 Kilometers per hour.
Special tires, sirens, cellular phones, fax machine, 100 meter
remote start, AWD, EDS differencial locks, tiptronic.
There is a picture of the car and some of the accesories also.
Kind of strange that among the pictures of bullet riddled glass
and door detonator button they show the button for the seat heaters.
