Re: Stabilant
In a note dated 2/17/97 Rob Carselle quotes Ned Ritchie:
<<then switches to a conductor in the presence of electricity.......Stabilant
is a potentially electricly active material.....">>
While I have the highest regard for Ned and his technical expertise...this
quote scares me...I would never introduce conductive material to electrical
connectors, especially in high impedance circuits, where more than one
connection is in close proximity to another for fear of bridging over
signals. I just treated all my under-hood connections and cleaned all my
grounds a few weeks back...when the connectors were off I noticed many which
had very close tolerances where my fears could turn to reality if this were
indeed the case. Perhaps this "conductivity" is at the molecular level
between contacts but can't bridge say...across a connector, and if so my
worries are unfounded...my guess is this must be the case as I can't imagine
any highly conductive contact cleaner being successful in the
marketplace...and obviously Stabilant is. Any comments from our esteemed EE
types? For now I see no reason to switch from Caig Lab products...but am
always looking for "the best contact cleaners".
