RE: Leak to Right Rear Floor in '87 Coupe GT

This sounds exactly like a similar problem I have had in a 84 Coupe GT, 86
Anniversary 4KQ and my current vehicle, a 87 4KCSQ.

There is a drip tray under the dash on the passenger side that catches the
condensation coming off the A/C condenser and routes the water to the
outside of the vehicle. It routes the water by way of a rubber gasket in
the firewall. What happens is the drip tray can become disconnected from
the gasket, or the gasket and its molded-in evacuation tube can become
plugged. If either of these two situation occur the result is water
running down the front of the passenger side footwell and subsequently
pools in the lowest point, the right rear floor area.

The solution to this issue is to make certain the drip tray has a solidly
fitted to the firewall gasket and that the gasket (on both sides of the
firewall) is clear of all debris.

Hope this helps.

Rob,
You may not want to hear this, but should check out:

I recently had my front windshield replaced in my '85 Coupe GT
(due to the difficulties of placing my bass amp in the car on my way
to rehearsal.....idiot). And, when the glass was removed, we took off
the gasket and found a spot on the lower left corner (looking at the car
from the front) that had obviously been compromised. It had a minor amount
of rust and was showing signs of leaking, due to the dampness of the
insulation below the windshield on the firewall, and the carpet below. So,
you may want to check your front windshield gasket.

Oh, and just so ya know, SWR bass cabinets don't fit in coupes...
