'86 CGT Ign. Sw. (DONE!) & ramblings
To all,
First, hi and thanks. Second, if you want to read a looonng
story/thank you letter, continue on, otherwise please excuse the BW.
I want to state that I am new to the web(relatively), new to the
list, and renewed to my Audi Coupe! I have all of the list members to
thank for a rejuvenated love of my Audi and for a renewed interest in
the maintenance and repair of such mentioned automobile. After what
turned out to be a faulty ignition switch module caused my coupe to sit
lifeless in front of my house, I began to use my girl's '95 Mitsubuishi
Eclipse(not a bad little go-kart) and occasionally was made to suffer in
a Corsica(Ugh!). I changed the secondary fuel filter to no avail. I
didn't think that was it, but tried anyway because next was getting AAA
Plus and having it towed to my mechanic. Right around that point in
time, I subscribed to this list.
With the help of the list(especially a keen Steven Buchholz), I was
able(with numerous questions) to diagnose the previously mentioned
switch as the culprit. I had thought either the fuel pump or FP relay
was the cause, so I happily proceeded to Pass & Weisz Porsche/Audi for
the $23.50 part! Needless to say, you all had a part(NPI) in the repair,
but I would especially like to thank Phil Payne, Eric Flurh, and of
course Steven Buchholz, whom without I could STILL be searching for the
solution . . . . or worse, handing cash over to my *X-Mechanic!" Yes, I
quite possibly may not use him again(doubtful, and rather stupid of me
to state since by doing so I probably just jinxed my Coupe!) Please pray
to the Audi Gods for her!
Speaking of jinxes, I will quickly tell all about her first "total"
in '96. I had been "putting" some not-so-serious money into her for a
period of months when my girlfriend became doubtful of her(the coupe's)
future. She kept offering her opinion on the uselessness(I'm sure you
all know how that works) of investing significant amounts of money into
a 10 year old car "that I was going to sell anyway." Well one day after
a decent mechanic's bill, she says it: "Why are you spending all this
money on that car, you're probably going to end up totalling it
tomorrow!" Well it wasn't the next day, but_it_was 4 days later when
while waiting on a two lane 40 MPH road(one of my favorites in town) to
take a left , going 0 MPH with my left blinker clicking away, the driver
of a (no lie)Mustang Conv.(on the street I am patiently waiting to take
a left onto) decides to pull out in front of me right into the path of
an oncoming(coming AT ME) Camry. Driver of Camry swerves to his left,
clips with the entire length of his right side the Mustang in the front
bumper, then has nowhere to go and is now heading for my innocent Coupe!
There was no other car behind me but I had it in first gear and probably
didn't have a chance regardless since the Camry was travelling at
roughly 35 MPH right before the 'Stang pulled out only 15 feet away. A
couple of recent threads were covered in that not-so-short story, huh? I
wanted my baby fixed and got it, but only 2 months later, I'm trying to
dial-up an important call on my Nokia(another recent controversial
thread!) while in a rush and my Coupe's new front end says hello to a
very old pick-up's rear end! Oh well, at least the second body shop(the
shop my Porsche/Audi dealer uses) did a much better job.
I've forgotten what the hell I was talking about! . . . Oh yea . .
I apologize for any inconvience due to the BW . . . maybe someone
enjoyed my ramblings or can possibly take some morals from the story.
Again, THANK YOU ALL! Maybe 5 or 6 months ago, I do not know why, I
began to mistreat and neglect my Coupe. Interest in my car had been
lost, so directly or indirectly, all of you listers have resurrected my
passion for my Coupe and we thank you.
