Re: Mobil 1 -Reply

Rob/All, A gentle inquiry. Why does no one seem to use Amsoil? All the print
here seems to be Redline and Mobil 1. I first used synthetics in '77 and have
used Amsoil since about '85, probably 250kmi worth, and have found all their
lubricants to be good stuff. The only thing is that their name sounds too much
like Amway and folks tend to shy away. In fact I typically use very long change
intervals, 25kmi with Amsoil filter change every 3-5kmi, and have had no
problems and clean engines.

A couple of years ago while touring the Garber Facility in Wash DC, this is the
'attic' and restoration facility for the Air and Space Museum, 8-10 hangars full
of stuff you've never seen before, I noticed a mechanic stuffing an oil pump
with Amsoil grease. Now this oil pump was from a WWII Japanese float plane that
could be folded into a watertight hangar on a special class of submarine that
was designed to be transported long distances underwater then be used to bomb
the US mainland. (Only successful mission was against the Panama Canal, though.)
So anyway, this is a very rare piece of hardware and the guy is using Amsoil
grease on it. I inquired and he said that they used Amsoil on all this stuff
because it didn't separate over long periods of time. Having been using their
products for years already I was glad to have stumbled upon this endorsement.
Yes, most of our machinery is going to be used daily and not dedicated to
long-term storage, except for my Rovers, but there is a clear implication of
overall product quality here.

Any thoughts, bad experiences, comments, testimonials re Synthetics in general
and Amsoil in particular?

Regards, Gross Scruggs
