Re: Torque Wrench Extension
In a message dated 97-02-21 16:21:39 EST, you write:
<< Maybe I missed something on this torque wrench extension tool but FWIW the
extension allows you to use a smaller torque wrench to get the 258 ft lbs at
the nut. e.g. If the extension is the same length as the torque wrench you
only need to torque to an indicated 129 ft lbs to get 258 at the nut.
Torgue at nut = (indicated torque)*(total length (center of nut to
torque wrench handle pivot))/(torque wrench length (center of attachment to
center of handle pivot)).

CLOSE, THO OTHER WAY AROUND BOB..... What 2079 does is give you the option
to use a sub 300ft/lb torque wrench on a +300ft/lb bolt spec..... IOW,
directions are to get an "indicated" 258 on the torque wrench about a foot
from the bolt.... Your interpretation is what most mechanics I've
"corrected" assume as well.... Hope this clears things up.... Ever try to
price a 300+ torque wrench.... Audi was smart with 2079
