Axle Rust

All,

Noticed some rust on the LR axle of the V8, starting 2" from and
extending to the boot at the diff.  Is this going to be a problem in
this milennium?  Bentley dwg shows axle flange is a separate piece. 
BTW, is the shaft solid or hollow?
