Consumers Reports, Oil & Beer

Good gracious, they really did that? This illustrates a point.
They don't know where data stops and opinion begins.
And to discriminating beer drinkers, this only barely
makes it as opinion. Harumph.

By chance did they test Molsen in the crankcase?

Woa. Since 90%+ of engine wear occurs at strat-up, you just
more-or-less proved that synthetics WILL prolong engine life, IMNSHO.

I'm still interested in the details of the testing that Avi claims he performed
that showed (1) increased wear with synthetics and (2) seal failure.
I must ask, were the seals in question designed with synthetics in mind?
If no, then the testing was performed on an engine specifically not
designed for synthetics, _or_ with a design error. Great reference point, huh?

I'll get Ed Wheeler's post out of storage ***once again***, so that
we have some facts. The noise-to-signal ratio is on its way up again.
If I have to post this *!%&@ thing one more time the bits are gonna
wear out!!

data point: I drained my dino oil, 10/30 3 weeks ago on a cold day.
By the time I got it to the recycling center, it would barely ooze
out of the bottle. Mobil1 flows freely at those temperatures.
So, who thinks that frozen oil (not in the bearing) protects
better than synthetic oil that IS on the bearing??? Any takers?
