I am really on the fence about synthetics. I use them thru out the drive train on my Diesel truck but use Cummins Blue in the motor. Changing oil every 4 to 5K. ( recommended change 6k big filter and lots of oil)
I use Castrol syn in both my street car 635CSi and my 2002 track car. ( both driven hard) Changes under 3k
I use regular oil in my wifes Celica and change 3k and bike change every 1500k.
Some of the brothern from Porsche that run on the track ( hard) are going away from synthetics to the blends. the feeling ( if I have it correct)is that they the syn oil is not pumping at the volume that a less slippery oil and that is does not stay on the serface as long as the other.
Again, I have had good experience with both but I think that the regular changes ( including filter) are the key. I have had people that rep Amsoil be definate about going many more miles between changes with their product but old habits die hard. and I keep changing around 3k. This might well negate ( cost wise) any benifits of Syn Oil on a normal street driven car. Like I said I am on the fence about Oil and thinking about going to blends.
Rayk, BMW's and an A4 in the future.
