Synth Oil Evidence(Pro)

Last year I had an opportunity to "open-up" a 157,000 mile Audi
I5(non-turbo) motor.
Its entire life has been with Mobil 1!
Head, pistons, and crank were all removed, inspected and measured for
wear.

What was found internally to this engine was quite supriseing!
(From an engine builders stand point)
The first thing apparent was the condition of the cylinder walls! The
"original factory"
cross-hatching was still very evident. The pistons all came out thru
the top of the block, no lip ontop! When measured the cylinder's were
0004 worn! Thats the only
difference we could find from top to bottom!

The crank bearings exhibited similar "lack of wear". Even the
piston's compression
(top) rings were hardly worn. Well within factory spec's!

This engine was put back together, and today has over 220,000 miles.

Prior to this event I found a Audi I5 (non turbo) motor from a wrecked
Audi
which had 33,347 miles. Its owner had hung onto the car for 5 years
after its wreck.
He stated the motor used Penzoil 30 W.

This motor was also opened up, since it had sat for so long, and its
internals
exhibited much more, MUCH,more wear than the synth motor! The crank
bearings
especially were the most "visibly" worn pieces, as were the valve
guides, and
piston rings. The cylinder wall were .034 worn in the middle!

			"All the proof I need!"

I still have both motors, and I bet the 220k one still hasn't reached
the level of were found in th 33k one!

My 81 5kT is still driving at 297,677 miles, and Mobil 1.
