Probably yes - although the backflow is not typical of these 
problems.  When the system is under pressure (running) take a REAL 
close look at the hoses in that system - if one was bulging, that 
could cause the fluid to flush back when the system was turned off 
and the pressure dropped - the hose would return to normal state.  
(Just an idea.....)

Another possibility: If you have an air leak anywhere, perhaps you're 
getting oil foaming and that causes overflow.  (Someone else had this 
specific problem within the last six months - perhaps it was Avi???)

Since you say your pump needs rebuilt, I suspect the latter cause - 
air getting in the pump.
