Update on auto up/down relay for 5k ...

Well, I am learning more about the bastard child I recently acquired ...

In the process of attempting to repair what I thought was a problem with
the power window mechanism on the '87 5kCSQ I found that the mechanism
worked just fine ... it appeared that the auto-down module was malfunc-
tioning.

[side question: Does anyone have a trick for getting off the C clip that
attaches the mechanism to the window on these cars?] ... TIA!

I was surprised to find that this module was not plugged into the aux
relay panel [clue #1], but it sounded like it was attempting to work,
so I took it apart and burnished the relay contacts ... still no workee.
I looked and the module was a "double module" (i.e. it plugged into two
standard relay sockets in a panel) and it had 3 relays, one to provide
power to the window circuit after the key was turned off until the door
was opened, and two to parallel the up & down switches in the door. I
said to myself "Cool, I should be able to modify this thing to provide
auto-up as well as auto-down functionality ..." My brother-in-law was
going to an Audi yard on his way over to let me do some work on his car
for him, so I asked him to pick up a relay for me while he was there.
When he showed up he gave me a single-wide relay module [clue #2] so I
told him that he should take it back as it was the wrong part for my car.
I tried to find the same module in the '88 5kCSQW, but I couldn't see the
aux relay panel well thru the access door and didn't feel like tearing the
dash panels off. Someone mentioned to me that the V8Q already had the
auto-up functionality, so I decided to check out the fiche to get a P/N;
the fiche indicated that it is a double module. I also pulled up the
number on the 5k ... the number on the 5k fiche is completely different
than the part on my car, and there is no mention of the fact that the
module takes two relay locations [clue #3]. I checked the 200Q fiche,
which shows that there was a change from a single to double module at
some point during production. Steve _finally_ realizes that his car
is not stock.

It appears that whoever attempted the mod tried to do a good job, it
appears that they got a loom from a newer 200 or V8Q and tried to retro-
fit it in the car. From the wiring diagram it should work ... there
must be a slight incompatability between the two that I need to track
down. I think I'll be able to get everything figured out now, but it
won't be the simple job of modifying the internals of the stock relay
... at least not yet. I'll try it again on the stock '88 5k once I get
this one figured out. I can tell from the Bentley diagram that the pro-
per wires are present on the car to provide both auto-up and down with
the appropriate relay change.

[It would be great if I could get a copy of the sheet from the Bentley for
a '91 200Q that shows the control module for the driver's door window.] TIA!

Apologies for the long message, I seem to be in tale telling mode today;
I just wanted to let those who had expressed an interest in my project
know what I was finding ...
