Subject: Need Hydro Help!

I am in need of experience and wisdom from the list. My '87 5kTQ, 78kmi,
acquired only three weeks ago, has among other problems the 'annoying' habit
of
pushing substantial amounts of hydro fluid out the top of the resevoir. I've
just replaced the cap/spring/float/gasket/switch assembly and it continues to
blow fluid out until just below the 'low' mark, thereby setting off the bells
and lights of the diagnostic system. I know my hydraulic accumulator needs
replacing and the pump needs rebuilding. Is this resevoir problem separate or
associated, and what is happening?

Fellow Audi fanatic,
This problem is definitely associated with the pump, I had the same problem
just 1 year ago and when I replaced the pump, no more oil sprayed driveways.
I was told from the parts manager at the local Audi dealer that it is not
worthwhile to rebuild the pump, they don't last. You'd be better off to just
go ahead and get a new one. Do the job once and forget about it.
