Pentosin

Colleagues:

I feel stupid as h*** for asking this but--just what is Pentosin anyway(I 
know it is Audi's marvelous, magic, mystery "hydraulic oil" for PS/PB 
boosters)?  Is it eally unique to Audi because Audi uses a hydraulic 
rather than a vacuum boost system.

I guess the really big question is whether or not there are any readily 
available substitutes for it on the open market.  I've talked to more 
then one self-styled "expert" who says it is nothing more then power 
steering fluid in a fancy can at a high price ($12 the liter at the 
dealer). Othere experts tells me it is this really uninque stuff made of 
liquified unobtanium.  :)

If it is not regular over the counter stuff I"m off to the Audi dealer 
today to buy some for the 89 100q.

Sorry to be so uninformed even though I've had 4 Audis, but if we ever 
had a contest for the least tenchnically competent member of this group I 
would be competing for top (bottom ?) honors.
