RE: cams, cams,
Cant tell you the specs but he said that the 276 does idle lumpy but has
outstanding power up high. He did not say that the cam took away from the low
end just added to the high end. As far as the idle goes the 276 is a little
more extreme than the 272 but not much lumpier if any than the 272. I don't
know the prices but I would expect ~500 for the 272 and ~600 for the 276 since
it has to be imported.
As far as the turbo cam goes any audi junkyard should have an old 5000t laying
around that you can take a cam off of. I don't think there is any drivability
problems with the turbo cam. That is why it does not do as good as the 276.
Ned claimed that it is a simple drop in for the turbo cam. He did not mention
anything special about installing the 276. IMO Ned would not have mentioned it
if it shortened the life of the engine. His 4kq with the cam is blazing fast
for a 4kq.
For another mod you might consider getting a 4kq manifold and downpipe as
these increase the hp ~10 confirmed by audi's own numbers.

Thanks, now I have more questions:
Is the 276 more or less in: angle or degree(?), duration, hp, and idle
concerns, than the 272. IOW, compare and contrast for me please. And
rough prices too, thank you.
Is it easy to obtain a turbo cam? I could deal with $50-60 if I would
get those results w/o driveability problems. That is my major concern -
I like the way my I5 idles and pulls from idle in 3rd gear! And I also
like my MPG - I don't want to lose 5 or more MPG.
Is the turbo cam not quite as safe for the I5 W/O actually having a
turbo as a cam that is designed for the I5 W/O a turbo?
Most importantly, can I install it myself w/o dealing w/ timing and TDC
and all that stuff I am unqualified to do?
TIA! Allan
