Guy needing psychiatrist calms down...first issue, Synth Oil , Consumption

Well, I think even my mother saw my post about the Coupe making me crazy.
Thanks for all the support.

Now that I've calmed down, I'm going to try to tackle my problems somewhat
methodically.

Today's question to the list (and the Audi Gods, I hope they are
listening):

I switched to Mobil 1 three weeks ago. Motor has 83k on it, with no
noticable problems other than a heavy, brief shudder when I cut ignition.
(Vibration damper? Motor mount?)

Drove for two weeks with no oil loss, (and drove for previous month with
dino in
it, no consumption).

Today, I check the oil and am down 1.5 quarts. What gives? I know synth.
runs thinner and is more prone to consumption in older engines, but two
weeks of nothing, then suddenly, down over a quart has got me concerned.

I read at the Amsoil web site (and do I recall a post here as well?) that
they recommend, in older motors, paying close attention to oil level for
the first few weeks of switching to synth, as consumption will be higher,
but will then return to "normal".

I don't know for the life of me how this is so, but I wanted to run the
car with synth for its many benefits. But I'd rather switch to dino and
change the oil fanatically than lose over a quart in <1k!

Anxiously await any experiences with switching to synth in older motors
(and any feedback on that shudder, if it might be related...)
