Slide whistle noise...

I'm hearing a strange "slide whistle" noise at cold startup lately. It varies
in pitch, then goes away with one or two increases of rpm. It doesn't recur
until next really cold startup, i.e. the next morning. I don't think it does
it when ambient temperature is in the 30+ F range. Vehicle is a '89 80q w/
205K miles. Any hints would help. It doesn't last long enough to get out and
find it alone...
