Oh, it's a great car. Will it be trouble-free in ten years? Maybe.
Some Escorts are too. But there are more things TO go wrong.

Hey, hold on! I am paying for a '97 Audi A4 Quattro. I could have
bought almost anything I wanted - at any rate, I could have spent up
to $45000 if I really cared. I -know- the Audi is a better car.
That's never been the point. I just don't think the engine will wear
out before enough other pieces do for me to think it worthwhile to
get a new one again.

I never said Ford was better. In no way do I consider Ford better
than Audi. My Escort had fewer problems early on. It also has fewer
switches. I consider simpler cars to have fewer things to break.
Audi has a poor reliability reputation, and makes the most
technologically advanced and complex cars out there. I fully expect
it to begin falling apart eventually. It will still be faster,
nicer, and have a better ride than the Escort, but it too will need
replacing to me MY qualifications.
Your standards are lower. More power to you.
