Ashtray 5k

I have the pleasure of rewiring my aftermarket stereo so its lights dim 
with the rest of the ones on the car. The fella who owned the car before 
me was a flat-out butcher (though the Audi gods got him in the end!!).

It's kinda funny, I guess. I stood there with the Bentley for three or 
four hours trying to piece the mess together. Finally (it hit me like a 
sack of bricks when I finally measured the resistance instead of the 
voltage of the two wires that I thought were rheostat controlled, and 
found that there was no resistance--- get it? It was the same damn wire! 
I had both ends! there was NOTHING in the middle! God, am I a moron.) 

Anyway, The problem arrived (and was a little too challenging, in 
retrospect, for the simplicity of the damn thing) because I have no 
ashtray light. Whatsoever. not even a socket or mount, just two bare 
wires and a few other bare wires that I am still tracing and thus an 
open circuit. I'm nearly certain the car came with an ashtray lite, but 
I can't quite figure it out (how it mounted on the ashtray). The only 
translucent or transparent piece of the ashtray is a little orange or 
red bar that hangs out in the back of the ashtray.

So: should I have an ashtray light? I want one.
    Since it is likely a dealer only part, any price guesses?
    Anyone want to part that out? Huw?
				


Man, I hate tearing that stuff up and guessing the butcher's logic.
