Audi 100 (5000 in US?), 5-cyl 10v engine troubles... Help!
Hi,
I am new to this list, so please forgive me if a question like this has been
asked recently. Although I doubt it.
I have got the 2144cc 5-cyl K-Jetronic injection engine fitted to my 1982
Audi 100 5E (5000 is the US I beleive), and have been experiencing problems
with acceleration.
I started noticing a lack of power at the higher revs, resulting in a lower
top speed. This has no degraded to a state where I can only acheive 75Mph
in top gear, 65 up hill. This is no great problem, as the speed limit here
is 70Mph.
The main problem is lack of acceleration. I can do 0-60 in 28secs!. This
is flat out. The engine sounds very sick. I have replaced most of the
Injection and Ignition systems (with mostly 2nd hand parts). Anything I
haven't replaced I have tested.
The main problem seems to be assiociated with cylinder 4, as the plug fitted
here is black (i am unsure whether this is carbon or oil), as the others are
golden in colour.
Also, when the engine is revved to 5000+ rpm, a cloud of grey smoke comes
from the tail pipe. I was told that this was because of over fuelling, but
others say it may be head problems.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I'd like to keep it on the
road, as it is in excelent condition for a 15year old car.
Cheers,
