I had a '84 Quantum and really loved it. It's the reason I'm
coming into the Audi fold for the first time.

I never had a bit of problem with the vacuum system, although the
exterior door handles were a tremendous pain the butt. There was
a recent thread about the care & feeding of the handles recently.

My Quantum was very reliable, especially the engine (also a 5
cyl). I only ever changed the water pump and timing belt and did
regular maintenance. Other than keeping brakes & tires fitted, it
didn't cost me a penny.

If your mechanic gives his (or her) blessing, I'd say go for it.
