wheel straightening

Just took a nicely bent wheel to a local shop and thought I'd share the
results with you...

This wheel is a large forged 16" job off my Rover, and I think the PO must
have rammed a curb or pothole pretty good...it wasn't that obvious to the
eye, but it wouldn't balance and it jiggled on the road at speed.

The shop put the wheel in a large wheel truing jig (after removing the
tire) and marked the high/low spots with a runout gauge. Then they heated
the wheel...gently...and used pressure to pull the wheel into round...

Overall, the process took about an hour, cost $100, and made the wheel
round. The process did not discolor the wheel at all. They also remounted
the tire and balanced the wheel. They will do mail order, take care of a
variety of different wheel problems (structural and cosmetic) and save you
from having to buy another wheel.

They advertise in AutoWeek periodically.

Just a satisfied customer :)
