Had almost the same scenario. Driving through slush, warning lights come on.
Later okay. Next slushy day, warning lights again but terminal this time.
Replaced the alternator and all is well.
It seems that at a certain age these things become vulnerable to too much
moisture. Not a pleasant part to buy. I got a reman'd Bosch 115amp for $265
from Napa Auto parts (Wisconsin). By this point I had the car at the dealer,
so I paid them the labor. Under different circumstances I probably would've
done it myself. But doesn't look like a pretty job... Got some funky ducting
attached to the alt. Even the dealer complained about it's difficulty.
Battery is probably ok (small consolation prize :-)).
Be sure to have the alt checked first... Unless you really _want_ a new
battery. After my alternator was replaced my original Autobahn battery is
good as new. :-)
