I did some work with lightweight seat frames a few years ago, and in the
discussions, Ti came up. Seems the Russians are the world's biggest
suppliers of Titanium, and they are anxious to get the material out in
the auto market, so prices are pretty reasonable considering the
properties. It turns out that the properties of Ti are pretty good for
springs too. I had a Ti Viper coil spring in my hands at the SAE show a
couple years ago. It was impressive.
