In mud or snow you can build up a wedge in front of the tire that
helps to stop the car.  That's why Audi fitted an "ABS disable" switch
when they first introduced ABS.  Of course no one knew how to use it
so they took it away.

Wouldn't ABS help you stop better on ice?
